FAQ

Buying

Are your watches genuine?

Yes. Our in-house vintage specialists check every watch before it's listed. If we're not happy something is genuine, we don't sell it.

How do you describe condition?

Honestly, and with lots of photos. Our in-house vintage specialists check every watch before it's listed. Our photos are part of the description, so what you see is what you get. Every listing has a written condition section covering scratches, wear, dial patina and anything that's been replaced.

Has the watch been serviced?

If a watch has been serviced, the listing says so, along with any details we have. Otherwise, assume it hasn't been serviced recently. Many vintage mechanical watches will benefit from one at some point, which is normal for their age.

Is it waterproof?

Please treat every vintage watch as not water resistant, even if the dial or caseback says "200M" or "Seamaster". Gaskets and seals perish over decades. Unless a listing specifically says a watch has been pressure-tested recently, keep it away from water. That means no swimming, no showering and no washing up while wearing it.

Mechanical, automatic or quartz: what's the difference?

  • Manual wind (mechanical): you wind the crown every day or so.
  • Automatic: winds itself as you wear it. If it stops, give the crown a few turns and set the time.
  • Quartz: battery-powered and very accurate. A battery typically lasts a couple of years.

Every listing tells you which type it is.

Will a vintage watch keep perfect time?

Quartz watches will be very accurate. Vintage mechanical watches are a bit more characterful and can gain or lose a little each day. That's normal and part of the charm.

Will it fit my wrist?

Each listing gives the case size where we have it. For bracelets, email us your wrist size and we'll tell you whether it fits and how many links are included.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. You can choose Klarna at checkout. PayPal and Shop Pay are also available.

Do you ship abroad?

Yes. We ship overseas with Royal Mail. Prices are shown at checkout, and import duties or taxes are the buyer's responsibility. See our Shipping Policy.

Can I return a watch?

Yes. You have 14 days from delivery to cancel an online order for any reason, and your full rights if something is faulty or not as described. Email us first to start a return, and we'll email you the returns address. Please don't post anything to our business address, which is for legal and postal correspondence only. See our Refund & Returns Policy.

Live auctions on TILT

What are your TILT live auctions?

We go live on the TILT app every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 9pm (UK time). We show watches up close, answer your questions in chat, and auction pieces in real time.

How do I join?

Download TILT, search for skylinejewellery and tap Follow, and the app will tell you when we're live. Bids on TILT are binding, so only bid on what you want to buy.

Is buying on TILT the same as buying on the website?

TILT purchases are paid for and protected through the TILT app, under TILT's buyer terms. Website purchases are covered by our own policies. The watches, the checking process and the honesty are the same either way.

Is the website stock the same as what's on TILT?

Some pieces appear in both places. Each watch is one of a kind, so if it sells on TILT it comes off the website, and vice versa.

Finding and selling watches

Can you find a specific watch for me?

Yes. Tell us what you're after (model, era, budget, dial colour) on our Can't find the watch for you? page, and we'll hunt for it. There's no obligation to buy what we find.

Do you buy watches?

Yes. We buy and part-exchange vintage watches, especially Omega, TAG Heuer, Seiko and other Swiss brands. See Sell To Us.
